Look Good, Talk Less, Act Bad.

I've been a fan of Kill Hannah since around '99, and I have always felt they were doing something different and completely offbeat from what was popular. This still rings true, and I think this is the basis of their appeal-- at least for me. As an 11 or 12 year old with an aunt living in their home town of Chicago, I had her hunt high and low for American Jet Set and eagerly awaited its special delivery. It did not disappoint me. I was in love. And still, at almost 22 years old, I am highly anticipating their newest release. Their last full-length, Until There's Nothing Left Of Us, proved that they were finally on their way to becoming the band I always knew they could be. Now with their new song, "Strobe Lights", and a remake of an old favorite of mine, "New York City Speed", I strongly feel that they have made the last step in becoming the brilliant band they have kept secret all these years. As a fan, it has been such an incredible journey watching these guys change from one album to the next and I am about bursting at the seams with excitement for new tunes. So, check out Kill Hannah, love it or hate it, listen with an open mind and I can guarantee that they are one hundred times more original than the latest neon, auto-tune band that requested to be your Myspace friend (and you quickly accepted).

Fun fact: Kill Hannah was one of the first bands I ever took live shots of, about 7 years ago with one of my first film cameras. I can't promise those will ever make it to the internet, but my images from Warped Tour in Hartford, CT and Camden, NJ will pop up around here in a week or two. (There may already be a set posted on my Flickr page, but who am I to spill the beans?) If you're in Philadelphia tomorrow, you better go catch The Scenic at the Barbary. It's only $12, so if you're from Philadelphia and reading this right now, be there at 5PM sharp.

Dance until we just can't!

I don't know about you, but I'm about bursting at the seams waiting for the new Rocket Summer record to be released. Everything that TRS stands for, to me, is really incredible. I don't think there can ever be enough musicians putting out music with a positive message. On that note, I bring you some long overdue images of The Rocket Summer at the Worcester Palladium. More here!

Californiaaaa, here we cooome!

Phantom Planet at the Worcester Palladium. More here! And personally, I'm still in denial of their break up. The Guest was such an incredible record, and their live set was always full of surprises!

A "Things I'm Excited About" Post

Boston based band Lannen Fall has a new EP coming out this month entitled The World Can Wait. I had the privilege of hearing these songs last week and they absolutely blew me away. Lannen Fall has always been a fun band to see play and to listen to, but it's incredible to see them go above and beyond what they had previously been creating. I was blown away and I am super excited for this EP. Whether you've heard these guys before or not, you need to go check out the three new songs they have posted on their myspace page. Check out my personal favorites - "Late A Day" and "Little Miss Innocent". You won't regret it, that I can promise you.

My good friend Jeremy drew me this picture last week. I have yet to find a proper frame for it. His work is imaginative and his characters are always compelling. I love seeing what new things he can come up with, or new characters he has created since I last saw him. You can check out his work by visiting him on myspace and buying a piece or two! Make sure you check out all of his gorgeous paintings!

I'll have a small photo update coming within the next week. I'm still getting back into the swing of things now that I'm back home, and I need to get my laptop fixed before my warranty is up. Oh Mr. Macbook, you bring me nothing but trouble!

Vote for the Scenic to play BAMBOOZLE!

It will only take you a minute, so you should head on over to SHOWPOPR sign up, and vote for the Scenic to play this year's Bamboozle in New Jersey. Make sure you 'pop' them, not 'drop' them! If you vote them as your number one in your top five picks, they will get an extra vote. It's quick and easy (and the voting!), so please take a moment out of your day to do that!

Procrastination at its finest.

Now, I'm all for reading and English and writing, don't get me wrong, but my least favorite part about being enrolled in these courses is having to worry about what the professor is going to put on the test. Granted, there are worse books to be reading than On The Road by Jack Kerouac. On top of having to worry about what I can remember that might be of some kind of importance by time I finish reading this book (which, I was "supposed" to already be done with like, a week ago...), I have to write a paper talking about how, if I was a publisher when this was written, why would I publish it and why would I not? Now, I see what my professor is doing, but I still reserve the right as a student to bitch and moan about it until I get it done.

As you can see, I have failed miserably at posting new (old) photos. Hopefully within the next week. My life has been crazy for a spring break where I didn't even make it out of the state. Here is the abridged version: someone backed into my car and I gave myself a concussion (not a result of someone hitting my car). I am fine and my car is fine, but I just feel like this break was filled with (not always welcomed) chaos.

I can't wait until I am able to start reading books on my extensive summer reading list and my life is not consumed by both versions of On The Road (not that there's anything wrong with that, but it gets a little tiresome... yawn, Mr. Kerouac). I just started Wuthering Heights, so I hope I can buzz through the rest of this book so I can spend some quality time with Catherine and Heathcliff.

"Who Are You Now?" Not a Letdown

One of my personal most anticipated albums of 2009, This Providence's Who Are You Now? is now officially gracing my ears with its presence (listen here!) and I couldn't possibly be more excited. I recently saw these guys open for Ludo in Philadelphia at the Trocadero, and I was blown away - they are such a far cry from the band that they were in 2005, in the most positive ways. They played the longest set I had seen them play in over a year, maybe two years, and I was floored at how incredible they had become (or, maybe I had just forgotten how incredible they always were since it had been a while). For me, there is nothing better than a band you can get excited about; nothing better than a band whose records you anticipate and know you will love immediately because you know that whichever direction they choose to go in, it will fit them perfectly. Who Are You Now? is in stores March 17, and I know I will be purchasing a copy as soon as I can make it to a record store.

And the... thing.

Stoked to be spending the next two days seeing this tour!

I've been spending my day working on a writer's notebook I was supposed to be working on all semester. It's due Friday, and I can't even claim for it to be half done, especially since the snow this weekend kept me in Philly longer than I was planning (which is never ever a bad thing, however my homework wasn't too happy). Oops!

Speaking of Pennsylvania, Ashley Cookies and I went to West Chester for Dan's last show with the Scenic, which was very sad. But, we did get to party at Bam Margera's bar, which was rad as hell. Fortunately (or unfortunately), it started snowing so we decided to head back to Philly. I won't go into detail, but I will say it was a hysterical time thanks to Ashley Cookies and a sippy cup! As always, I got my Wawa sandwich and came back from Philly with glitter stuck to my coat - typical weekend at my home away from home.

Hopefully I will get to post some new pictures this weekend, but for now I suppose I'll go back to babbling for class. At least I have a cute little red notebook to write in.

Hey Heather, I'm lost in your letters.

For the five years I've owned this website, I'm pretty sure changes have been few and far between. I was well overdue for a new look. Thankfully, the company that hosted my site got a horrible virus, which forced me to reevaluate what I wanted to do with this little website of mine. It's two months into the new year and I've finally gotten down to business. There are still a lot of things I wish to bring to the table, but I am hoping to blog a ton - about my photography and also about anything else that happens to be on my mind.

So what have I been up to? When I'm not following my friends around the east coast, I'm taking art and writing courses as a second semester junior in college. Unforunately I won't be graduating next year because I am a tremendous slowpoke. It seems that I had much rather take my time and still visit my far away friends on a regular basis... somehow it all works out. However, I did exempt out of a class this semester which means I still get credit for it but don't have to show up for it at all - bangin'! Best news I've heard in a while.

I will leave you with the common knowledge that it's 8pm on a weekday and I am home, which means I'm very definitely watching reruns of House and professing my love for Dr. Chase to the world.

I am slowly posting my pictures from the Get Rich Slow Tour back in October - you can check out some of them by heading over to my Flickr page.
